Set up picnic circles or pods.
Nowadays a lot of people feel more comfortable hosting outdoor events. It's a great way to get together without actually getting too close together for health reasons. You can do this in a large yard or in a park weather permitting.
Serve pan dulce.
Instead of cake or cupcakes, serve pan dulce or any other pastries that the guest of honor loves. Not only are they a great alternative, they also allow you to offer a variety of single serve choices, so no cutting necessary.
Have a just for mom shower.
If you already have kids and don't really need much for the newest addition to the family, why not have a just for mom shower instead? What do you need? Ask for gifts that you could use and feel no shame about it, please.
Go co-ed.
It's actually shocking how many baby showers are stil female-only affairs. It seems rather antiquated. Host a co-ed baby shower and normalize men being a part of the village that helps to raise our children.
Same idea as a just for mom shower, but both parents are included. You could ask for gifts that you could use as a couple like maybe a couple's massage or food delivery subscriptions. Get creative or let your guests get creative for you.
Have a baby blocks cake.
Several small cakes are individually decorated like baby blocks and used to form a larger square or stacked on each other to create an adorable baby shower cake. It's very customizable and manages to look sleek and modern while keeping with the baby theme.
Go for a non-traditional theme.
There's no need to go to with been-there-done-that pale pastels themes. Instead, use a gender-neutral color scheme and a theme that is close to your heart to create a unique and beautiful atmosphere.
Baby sprinkles can have an older sibling survival kit section.
For moms who already have a child and are doing more of a baby sprinkle than a shower, consider of having an area dedicated to the older sibling. Put together a "sibling survival kit" to either display or present at the baby sprinkle. Include age-appropriate toys, snacks, books, etc.
Honor the mami's heritage.
Celebrate the guest of honor's heritage by incorporating cultural aspects into the baby shower theme. The Mexican-themed shower pictured here creates lots of visual impact and details that obviously mean a lot to the mama-to-be, from the decor to the special imported treats.
Have a mocktail bar.
Mama can't imbibe on those tasty mimosas often served at baby showers. Why not set up a "mocktail" bar stocked with recipe cards and ingredients for several delicious and refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails that will help anyone who doesn't drink alcohol get in the festive spirit?
Play the celebrity baby game.
If you're not a huge fan of shower games that make guests look silly like drinking out of baby bottles or getting wrapped in toilet paper diapers. Instead, go for non-humiliating games, like the celebrity baby game. Display photos of babies and have guests match them to their celebrity parents. Hint: The cutie pictured above has a mami whose "hips don't lie."
Ask for books instead of cards.
It's been proven that reading to babies from birth benefits literacy and language skills drastically. Facilitating baby's first library before she's even born will make it easy to help them get that good start. Include a request for books instead of cards in your baby shower invites.
Let guests know there will be a diaper raffle.
Diapers aren't exactly the most fun shower gift to purchase, but having a diaper raffle encourages guests to help parents stock up on this essential. Let guests know that a prize will be given to a randomly selected guest that brought along a package of diapers whether as their sole gift or an add on.
Have mini food.
A particularly cute idea for a smaller shower where there aren’t too many guests to feed is to serve a menu of all tiny foods. Sliders, a crudité of baby vegetables, tea sandwiches, mini fruit tarts and cupcakes. It's a sweet way to subtle recognize that tiny baby's life.
Ask for baby supply wreaths as gifts.
Another fun way to help the parents-to-be stock up on baby essentials is to create a decorative wreath out of them. Similar to the popular diaper cake idea, you use diapers, socks, bibs, etc. to create the wreath, which you can also adorn with things like travel size baby toiletries, hair bows and rattles. It makes for a great addition to the party decor and is actually useful once it's home and dismantled.
