Trying to make your way to the hospital as fast as possible while your wife's labor is speeding is stressful for any dad. But just imagine trying to make that drive while cradling your newborn daughter in one hand! Believe it or not, that's exactly what happened to California dad Eric Scheldt.
Apparently, Scheldt and his wife Aubrianna got into the car a little after 5 a.m. on Monday morning, anxious to reach the hospital after her water had broken. Scheldt drove as quick as he could, but Aubrianna's labor was speeding up much faster than anticipated. Suddenly, the first-time mom grabbed his arm. That's when the unthinkable happened.

Aubrianna told her husband that she could see the baby's head. When it became clear that the child was coming faster than expected, the couple called 911. But even emergency responders couldn't make it in time! "The baby may have been like a half way out and I reached in and gave it a little tug and she came right out," Schedlt told Fox News.
The anxious dad told the dispatcher the baby had arrived, but didn't wait for help to arrive before taking. Instead, he drove to the hospital, still holding the newborn in one hand! Can you believe that?
Amazingly, they made it on their own. When a security guard saw them with the baby (with the umbilical cord still attached!), he ran to get help.
Thankfully, baby Iona was born safely at 9 pounds, 2 ounces. Both she and mom are happy and healthy.
Wow! Becoming first-time parents is plenty anxiety-inducing. I can't even begin to imagine how this poor couple must have felt, delivering their own baby in a moving car! I'm just glad that both mom and little Iona are OK, despite the chaotic birth. And on the bright side, they'll have one heck of a story to tell their daughter when she grows up!
