After a flurry of dramatic and rather odd moments at the beginning of the year, there's been radio silence from 25-year-old singer Selena Gomez the past few weeks.
More from MamásLatinas: What's going on with Selena Gomez?
It turns out, she has just finished up a two-week-long mental health program in New York City, and sources say she is "feeling empowered." Even though we probably don't even know the half of it, it does seem like Selena's had something of a tumultuous year, so it makes total sense that she took some time off to get back on track.
The singer's struggles with her mental health are no secret.
For the past few years, Selena has been publicly open about her battle with anxiety, depression and panic attacks, and has sought treatment for these issues in the past, even cancelling her 2016 tour to do so.
According to reports, her latest round of treatment–which came after a bizarre few weeks of her unfollowing over 200 people on Instagram, rumors of her being estranged from her mother and some seriously sentimental posts–was a live-in program including therapy sessions, healthy meals and pilates classes.
It seems like a healthy choice for her.
Selena has been really open about her struggles as a child star and the impact that it's had on her. It's such a good sign that she's able to recognize when she needs help and to actually get that help as needed. I mean, we could probably all benefit from a two-week break focused entirely on self-care. It just seems like a really proactive and smart way to handle the burdens of life for those who can.
2017 was an undeniably tough year for her.
From her widly publicized relationship with the Weeknd and their subsequent breakup to her much-criticized makeup with Justin Bieber, alleged family and social riffs and of course her kidney transplant, Selena has had one hell of a year.
Honestly, we should all take a cue from her.
This woman is obviously learning how to prioritize her health and well-being in the midst of a hectic career and not-so-personal personal life. Although from afar it might look like a lot of drama, it seems like she's actually making all the right choices to be the best person she can be both for herself and for those around her. And honestly, that's all any of us can aim for.
