The Republican National Convention is over and Donald Trump is officially that party's presidential candidate. At first, I just made fun of the whole thing. There was a lot of craziness going on in Cleveland. But by the end, I was crying and more convinced than ever that I must vote in November. Now I vow to convince as many people as I can to do the same. Let me show you why I say that.

Blunder after blunder
Political observers agree that the RNC was the messiest convention in 20 years or more. There was fear of revolt on the floor in Cleveland, but nothing happened. The Republicans fell in line, as they always do. A big change, though, was John Kasich's refusal to assist. He is, after all, the governor of Ohio, the host state. Even so, I would've liked to have seen him pulling a Ted Cruz.
Ted Cruz proves he is Latino
I am not the only Latina who sees a lot of Judas in the Texas senator. His rethoric is anti-inmmigrant. However, he showed some of that Cuban fire when he agreed to speak in front of the delegates, but refused to endorse Trump. "I am not in the habit of endorsing somebody who attacks my wife and attacks my father," he explained. During the primaries, Trump said that Cruz's wife was ugly and that his Cuban father had something to do with the plans to kill JFK.
Melania's speech
Unless you live under a rock, you already know that Melania Trump plagiarized part of the speech Michelle Obama gave to introduce President Obama during the 2008 Democrat Convention. The Trump campaign first denied it, then tried to make it seem unimportant. At the end, dancer turned writer, Meredith McIver, took the blame. She is the ghost writer of Trump's self-help books. The big question is why would they put somebody like that to do such an important job?
The real First Lady
I feel like they left Melania's speech fall through the cracks because the real female star of the family is Ivanka Trump, Trump's eldest daughter. The 34 year-old mother of three gave an impecable speech talking about women's equal pay and child care. She even said that she had no political affiliation and chose this gorgeous nude tone instead of the typical red, blue or white. The truth is that she seemed more a Democrat than anything else.
"Law and Order"
The tone of the RNC was that everything in the country is a disaster and that lawlesness is the norm. Former New York Mayor Rudy Gulliani and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie cemented the idea that the FBI and the Attorney General are part of a covert operation to exonerate Hillary Clinton for the emails scandal. “Hillary Clinton should be put in the firing line and shot for treason,” said Al Baldasaro, a New Hampshire state representative and delegate for Trump. Then, Ben Carson conected Clinton with Lucifer. No comment!
Bésame mucho
The only explanation I can come up with for the weirdest moment in a convention plagued with many, is that Trump likes Putin (he has said he admires him) so much that he wants to copy the Russian tradition of kissing between men. Yes, he tried to kiss his vicepresidential candidate Mike Pence, who moved the other way. It doesn't surprise me though, the Indiana governor is well know for his anti LGBT stances…
A scary speech
The dystopian books like The Hunger Games are fairy tales compared to the country Trump described in his aceptance speech. According to him, we live in a Wild Wild West world in wich undocumented immigrants and muslims are to blame for everything. His statements were filled with half-truths and lies. Here is one: according to him "180,000 dangerous ilegal immigrants are roaming the streets". This numer describes the people who are right now in the middle of a deportation process. The undocumented criminals are usually deported right away.
The saddest thing he has seen
According to Trump, the saddest experience he's had as a political candidate was meeting with three families who lost their children to undocumented immigrants. While any parent whose child has died is indeed in undescribable pain and deserving of all our compassion, what about the parents who lost their kids to gun violence, or who can't pay their kids medical bills? Maybe he hasn't met with them, but I'm sure the percentage of families in these situations is huge. Luckily, there is something you can do.
Vote!
Whether you like Mr. Trump or not, remember, you have to vote. Otherwise, you are voting for the other guy.
