Amazing shelter dog saves 9-week-old baby’s life (VIDEO)

This amazing story almost brought tears to my eyes: Duke, a shelter dog who was adopted six years ago by a Connecticut family, is being credited with saving the life of their 9-week-old baby, Harper! It happened about a week ago, when Duke jumped on his owners' bed in the middle of the night. Jenna Brousseau, his owner, says that Duke started trembling uncontrollably, so much so that it woke the couple up.

This heartwarming story gets better!

Jenna says that Duke is usually such a mellow dog, that this action not only made them wake up with a start, but also made them realize that something was probably wrong. So the parents immediately thought of their baby and rushed to check on little Harper. They found the newborn was not breathing, so they immediately called 911; paramedics rushed to their house and were thankfully able to revive the newborn.

Isn't that the most incredible thing you have read all day? I am a huge animal lover, and I have a special place in my heart for dogs. There have been so many instances of dogs putting their own lives at risk to save their families, or walking miles to visit their sick owners. And have you ever heard about the dogs who alert patients if they're about to suffer seizures? (They're called seizure-assistance dogs, and they trained for this specific purpose–so amazing.)

Well, we're sure glad to hear little Harper is okay! My entire day has seriously been made better with this incredible story, especially since I myself have a newborn and have seen the concern in my own dogs' eyes when he cries. I know they'd probably do the same thing if there was ever something wrong with Sebastian, my baby.

The Brousseaus adopted Duke from a shelter a few years ago, and it's so amazing to see how he has saved them back in more ways than one. "He's the perfect dog," said Duke's owner Jenna. "He was meant to be ours, and meant to be hers [Harper's]." Aw! He sure is perfect! And such a great spokesdoggie for shelter dogs!
