Nail contouring to fake longer nails & here’s how to do it!

We've learned at this point that you can pretty much contour any part of your body. Think cheekbones (the original way), neck, collarbone, abs, legs, and even butt. But the latest contouring trend is probably the coolest yet: nail contouring. Trust us – it's not nearly as weird as it sounds!

So what exactly is nail contouring?

It’s basically a genius way to cheat your nails into looking so much longer. The look was first seen backstage at NYFW’s Vera Wang’s SS17 show and everyone has been obsessed with it ever since. Celebrity nail artist and technician, Jin Soon Choi is the master behind it and has apparently been doing this trick since her teens

This is something I used to do when I was young,” she told Elle.com. “When I was growing up, my friends and I wouldn’t extend the color to the sides of our nails to make our nails look more elongated.”

Here’s how it works:

To create the look, Choi first applies a clear base coat and then sweeps a coat of a darker color right down the middle of the nail. This is what creates the contoured effect that leaves nail beds looking longer and slimmer. It’s kind of the same way we use highlighter or bronzer on our cheekbones to make them look slimmer and more sculpted. Here are some of the coolest contoured nails we found on IG to rock this fall. Check them out!

These deep, dark and slim nails are everything.
