This is a love story like no other. When Laura Brammeierfound out she had brain tumors, she decided to freeze her embryos even though she was only engaged to Nate Yoho. The couple wasn't sure what would end up happening with the cancer, but they knew they wanted to have children. After surgery to remove the tumors, Laura and Nate got married and thought the worst was behind them. But then, the tumors came back …

After additional surgeries and cancer treatments, Laura's oncologist finally told them there was nothing else to be done, and the newlyweds had to make an unconventional decision. They asked Laura's best friend, Kara Stetson, if she'd be willing to be a surrogate mother so their dream of becoming parents would turn into reality. Kara, who'd known Laura since the second grade, didn't hesitate to say yes.
Back in July, about four months before Kara's due date, Laura's friends planned a beautiful baby shower. Laura was surrounded by love, but it wasn't enough to help her win the battle against cancer. Three days later, Laura was dead. Nate was devastated, but at least he had something to look forward to.
Kara gave birth to her best friend's child the day before Thanksgiving. Laura never got to meet her, but for Nate, she lives on through their daughter Caralyn. Nate knows no one will ever replace his wife, but he says that when looking at his little girl, he feels like part of his wife is back.
I'm sure the roller coaster of emotions he must be feeling are like nothing else he's gone through, but while this story is heartbreaking, it's also incredibly uplifting. Caralyn sure is one lucky little girl who will no doubt be surrounded by lots of love. We wish both Nate and little Caralyn all the best!
