Boy asks Santa for most unique & thoughtful Christmas gift EVER

In an age when we are increasingly hearing stories of innocence lost, 10-year-old Ronnie Harris' letter to Santa is refreshing and downright inspirational, albeit heartbreakng. Ronnie's father Russell, has an inoperable brain tumor, and his son's only Christmas wish is that his dad's cancer be cured. No toys, no treats, no games — just a cure for the illness his father has struggled with for the past eight years.

The letter which Ronnie's mother Emma found under his bed while cleaning reads:

Dear Santa,

This Christmas I would like one specific thing this year.

My dad has a really bad brain tuma (sic).

Could you please find a cure for him to make him better and I will be the happiest boy in the whole world!

Merry Christmas,

Yours sincerely,

Ronnie Harris.

I am so utterly touched by this child's innocence and hope. Not only is it amazing that he still believes in Santa, but the faith indicated by his letter should be a lesson to us all — miracles DO happen, and it never hurts to ask.

Russell's cancer has continued to grow more aggressive over the years, and it may be unlikely that Ronnie's dad will be cured, but we can certainly join him and his family in praying that he is. I hope with all my heart that this sweet family has a wonderful Christmas together, and that no matter the outcome, Ronnie continues to demonstrate the selflessness exhibited in his letter to Santa throughout his life.

Let us all take a page from this youngster who gave up his opportunity to ask for material things, and remember that Christmas isn't just about gifts, it's about sacrifice and giving.
