A new study has found that women who take multivitamins while trying to conceive are at a higher risk of having a miscarriage than those who don't. Published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, the study included 35,000 moms-to-be in Denmark who took the supplements regularly in the six weeks prior to becoming pregnant. The results showed that they were 32 percent more likely to suffer a miscarriage.
After ruling out factors such as obesity, smoking and previous miscarriages, researchers of the largest study of its kind could not figure out the cause.

The findings are quite alarming considering that many women start taking better care of themselves when trying to conceive and one of the ways they do that is by taking vitamins.
But before you go on making changes to your health routine, you should know that the authors of the study have made it very clear that more research needs to be conducted before any recommendations on the use of multivitamins are made. In other words, if you have any questions or concerns whatsoever, you should reach out to your OB/GYN and follow his or her instructions.
One thing you shouldn't stop doing is taking folic acid, which has been proven to help prevent birth defects. I didn't take multivitamins when I was trying to get pregnant or while I was pregnant because I tried to get most of what my body needed from a balanced diet. But, I did take the recommended folic acid because it's better to be safe than sorry.
I'm sure having a miscarriage is devastating, so the more research is out there regarding possible ways to prevent it, the better. Just be sure to cehck with your doctor before you make any changes to your routine.
