We would like to give a big thank you to Twitter user @filiniica for posting a picture of her itty-bitty beautiful baby holding a fist up in the air, which she captioned “My baby said no justice no peace .” Not only did the picture of her baby warm our hearts, but the responses that came flooding in are so adorable that we absolutely have to share a few of them with you because the world could do with baby power to keep us motivated to fight the good fight.
More from MamásLatinas: Anti-racism books to teach children about diversity and equality
Seriously, as we all endeavor to educate ourselves on how to tackle racial injustice seeing these sweet babies is a great reminder of exactly what is at stake. Do we really want these babies and future babies to have to keep fighting the same fight we’re fighting? Those of us who are adults may not be able to fix everything that is wrong, but we can at the least work hard to make the world a more equitable place for the next generation. And whenever you get disheartened, come back and look at these sweeties to heal that heart of yours.
This was the tweet that started it all.
This is the picture that @filiniica shared of her sweet baby with a fist up in the air. Now, we know that all babies tend to do this, but given the state of affairs in our world and the massive protests happening, it's hard not to see this raised fist as a symbol of protest against racial injustice.
And then the responses started coming in.
See this darling? She’s down for the cause, too. All serious looking. She will not lay idly by while injustice continues to be systemic and deeply rooted in our society. Nope, not at all. You better believe she expects better from all of us.
This mini diva knows what’s up.
Her fist is up! And it will keep going up until she sees some real change happen and not just lip-service. She was not born to be mistreated or witness others be mistreated, so let’s get our ish together and be better.
Look at that face!
Seriously, that face is irresistible. And check out the little fist being held up. This cutie knows that it’s time to take a stand and not be passive. This baby knows that it is up to all of us to speak up.
Who says you can’t be cute and serious?
This little lady right here is proof that you can be cute, care about fashion, and still show up for a serious cause. OK? No excuses because she’s not here to deal with excuses. She’s here to thrive.
This is proof that you can sleep, but even in your sleep you must be woke.
Yes, you absolutely need to take care of yourself and get those ZZZs in because they will help you wake up re-energized and ready to keep on doing the right thing. And if you want to sleep with your fist up in the air like this stunning child, go for it!
We are all born worthy.
This baby knows that and wants to remind us all. We do not have to prove our worth, we do not have to wait for someone to grant us our worth. We are worthy from day one and deserve to be treated as such.
This baby is GENIUS!
She shouldn’t have to fight against obstacles to her genius. Her genius should be recognized, embraced, and nurtured. Can we guarantee that for her if we don’t actively fight against racism?
A star is born.
This dazzling darling would like to remind you to create a world where she can shine as bright as she is meant to. Don’t try to dim her light the way that so many lights have been dimmed before.
My goodness, this child has conviction.
That fist goes up not once but twice in case you missed it the first time. Why? Because it bears repeating: We have some work to do and it needs to be done NOW! Don't make this baby tell you again!
She’s only 1 month old!
Look at how tiny she is! Her little fist up in the air is everything. We love that her mom shared this picture. “No justice, no peace!” We hear you, baby. We hear you.
He’s ready to fight, are you?
Come on, how are you going to tell this baby that you don’t have time to fight for justice? This is everyone’s fight to fight. If you do nothing, what you are actually doing is supporting injustice.
Children should be heard!
We need to teach our children to speak up whenever they see oppression and to speak up in favor of justice. This baby took a break from eating a delicious meal to raise a fist in the air. Could it be that she heard someone say something about fighting systemic racism that she just had to agree with?
Well, hello, little one!
This picture was captioned, “Black power ☺️ .” We love it! May this child grow up proud and empowered. May others see and respect this child's power and not try to take it away.
He’s mad and you should be, too.
Here he is all excited to come into the world and what does he find when he gets here? He finds people dying because of the color of their skin. He finds other people denying that it’s even happening. How could he not be mad?
I’ll drink to that!
You know how when you get together with other adults and enjoy some adult drinks, you think of something you care about and make a toast and then everyone says, “I’ll drink to that!” Well, this baby doesn’t need a grow-up drink to toast to equity! Cheers to that
Check out this baby’s checklist.
Remote control? Check! Pacifier? Check! Blanket? Check! Conviction to racial justice? Check! This baby is ready to take on the world. After a nap, of course. FYI, you're allowed to take a nap, too, especially if it gives you more energy to fight for equity.
Look at her eyes!
Those big beautiful eyes speak volumes. They say, “Don’t let me down. Don’t stand by and say nothing because you can’t deal with the discomfort of confronting racism because if you do, you’ll have me to answer to.”
Yes, you can be a pacifist and still fight.
Just because this baby finds peace in a good pacifier that doesn’t mean that this baby won’t fight for justice. Even if it is with a pacifier in mouth. Pacifists are fighters. too, they just fight with their fists in the air.
This little one wasn’t even out of the hospital when he took up the cause.
The caption on this photo reads, “#BeenWoke.” We believe it. This baby looks like they were mulling over the state of the world while they were in the womb. Babies can’t talk, but this baby really seems to be saying something valuable.
