This Human Barbie's reason for transforming her figure isn't purely fueled by vanity. Amber Guzman was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, a rare genetic muscular disease that causes muscles to weaken. The debilitating condition makes it difficult for the California native to walk, run or even move from a seated position. Guzman has to be carried around like a doll, which gave her the idea to morph herself into a Human Barbie and take a positive spin on the incurable illness that plagues her every day.

The 28-year-old first started feeling symptoms when she was 18, but wasn't diagnosed with the illness until three years ago. Guzman didn't have much control over the health of her body, but she was able to change her body image. "I love being compared to a living doll. It is what I truly feel like I am now and I'm happy to be one. Being a doll has saved me," she told British media.
Human Barbies are judged as being mentally ill and controlled by their vanity, but I think Guzman's story proves that you can't judge each journey the same. Guzman claims she has never had plastic surgery to achieve her Human Barbie look. It seems like she does wear colored contacts and plenty of makeup to achieve her look. She's also naturally skinny due to the condition she struggles with everyday.
If her appearance makes her feel better about herself and empowers her, then I think Guzman should stand in her own Human Barbie skin and own it.
