‘Ray Rice-inspired makeup tutorial’ is NOT what you think

When I first heard there was a "Ray-Rice-Inspired Makeup Tutorial" circling around the internet, I thought I was going to puke. An NFL player knocking out his then fiancée (now wife)is no laughing matter. Just the thought of someone poking fun of it made me sick to my stomach. But this tutorial isn't quite what it seems. It's not only really clever but it's probably the BEST response I've heard regarding the NFL (and it's crappy way of handling domestic violence) so far!

Toronto-based writer and comedian Megan MacKay is the genius behind the "Ray Rice inspired makeup tutorial." And while she is actually playing with makeup, it's really more about her clever take on how the NFL responded to Ray Rice's recent domestic abuse scandal.

"The first step, as always is foundation. I'm using a new shade I just got called 'The NFL,'" she starts off saying. "I really like this color, because it'll cover up anything." She even includes a shade of eye shadow in #25, which actually represents the number of years you would serve in prison for a felony assault in Maryland, if you weren't a famous NFL player of course.

"I really wanted to pull apart and examine the way were talking about the Rice incident and compare it to how we speak about and treat abuse victims in general," she said in an interview with MTV. And MacKay tackles all of that in her video.

Let's be honest here, it's disgusting the way the NFL has chosen to turn a blind eye on this situation. Okay, so he was suspended for two games and fined more than $500,000. How is that enough of a punishment though? The truth is, if Rice wasn't a famous NFL player he'd be behind bars by now and it angers me how his wife Janay Rice, who is the true victim in all this has been blamed.

Mackay ends her tutorial with one of her favorite lipstick colors called "We can do better." And you know what, she's absolutely right. We should not cover up domestic violence, we should not take it lightly and we should not let anyone get away with it–NFL players included!
