Sandy message in a bottle: Mom receives daughter’s note from beyond the grave (VIDEO)

It's been almost a year since Hurricane Sandy caused destruction to the northeast, but this tragedy brought closure to one New York mom in the most unique way. Mimi Fery was given a green plastic bottle that washed up on the Long Island shore with a message in it from her deceased 18-year-old daughter, Sidonie.

Thanks to Patchogue Parks Department employees, Fery received the special memento that was written by her daughter more than a decade ago. And the message in the bottle was appropriately what Fery needed to hear…

According to NBC News, the parks department workers were cleaning up the debri alongside the beach when one of them came upon the bottle, which contained the message "Be excellent to yourself dude." It also had Fery's home phone number which is how they were able to get in contact with her.

You see, Sidonie died in 2010 during a freak accident when she fell off a cliff in Switzerland while attending boarding school. She'd written the message, a quote from her favorite film, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure prior to her death. She then sent it off into the ocean in a bottle, and the bottle just now resurfaced! Isn't that amazing!?

Fery became overcome with joy and tears and calls the park workers "very, very kind people" after they returned the prized possession to her. Fery recalls that Sidonie had a hard time fitting in because other students would make fun of her due to her Iranian background and birthday, which landed during the terrorist attacks of 9/11. But she says her artistic, creative daughte never let their teasing get her down.

Now Fery plans on attending a ceremony in Patchogue to thank the park workers and to accept a plaque in remembrance of Sidonie. Aw, what a perfect ending to a sad story!

It's amazing that a message this woman's daughter sent YEARS ago, suddenly washed up on shore. I bet she went through a hard time accepting her daughter's death and was still feeling the effects of it up until now. She could consider this a little sign from her daughter who sounds like she was a tough cookie and doesn't want her mother to suffer anymore.
