When I was 14 years old, I could cook some of the basics. Although my mom was frequently working, it didn't stop me from learning what I could in the kitchen and I was able to make some favorites as a teenager. What I definitely couldn't do, though, was put on a 12-course meal at a fancy restaurant. Well, that's actually exactly what child chef prodigy 14-year-old Flynn McGarry is doing this week.
The San Fernando Valley, California schoolboy has been cooking for the past three years and already has a culinary career good enough to head the kitchen at Beverly Hill's BierBeisl restaurant. The biggest shocker, though, is that he's already sold out a 12-course meal for 40 people at $160 per person.

The funniest thing about this kid chef genius is that he was originally inspired to start cooking because he just didn't love his mom's food. Luckily, mom Meg McGarry wasn't offended and instead bought her son some cookbooks and showed him recipe son the internet in case he wanted to try doing it better. Well, he clearly did! According to the Daily Mail, he told ABCNews:
It was after looking at all these cookbooks and going on the Internet and looking at these dishes that I thought, 'I could achieve that one day.' I thought, every time I try it, I hope to keep getting better and better. I just fell in love with it. My mom didn't really like cooking, and when she did cook I didn't really like her food. And I was watching something on the Food Network, and I thought, 'I could do this.' I went to the bookstore and I looked for the thickest, biggest cookbook. And I found 'The French Laundry' by Thomas Keller. I've always been very creative, and I wanted to create my own dishes, and I didn't know too much about it – but I would do variations from 'French Laundry' and other cookbooks and would cook them for my family. Then, I started liking the creative part of it, and I started to cook for more people than just my family.

The boy, who you can read more about on his site Dining with Flynn: The Culinary Life of a Fourteen Year Old Training to Become a Chef, is definitely on the rise. I think it's really amazing that, not only is he really talented, but his family is completely behind him. He's actually going to school online and his mom serves as his "general manager and reluctant dishwasher." I mean, really, what's cuter than that?!
