As you read this, my family and I will be on much-needed and well-deserve summer family vacation by the ocean. While I've taken a few days off here and there this summer so I could spend some time with my kids during their school break, this will be the first real vacation we take this summer. One of my big things is that besides spending time at the beach, I promised my daughter I'd be completely disconnected.
Now I'm wondering if I'm really going to be able to do it.

You see, I spend the majority of my waking hours sitting in front of a computer screen. My fullt-ime job as a staff writer for MamásLatinas not only requires me to write several posts a day, but it also requires me to be connected and well aware of what's going on in the online world. Once I'm done with my paying job and after I put my kids to sleep, I get connected again so I can work on my other job–a labor of love called SpanglishBaby.com.
I honestly don't have a problem being connected so much because I mostly do it for work-related reasons, but lately I've been tired and in need of a break. So, as I made the reservations in the beachfront hotel where we'll be staying the first few days of our Miami vacation, I told myself that I would attempt to disconnect completely.
To that end, I've left my laptop back home, I've erased the Facebook app from my iPhone (temporarily) and I'm seriously thinking about installing an app that will only allow me to use my iPhone as a cell phone. In other words, I'll only be able to make and receive phone calls and texts. I hope all this allows me to really disconnect from it all and just concentrate on relaxing and having a good time with my kids and husband.
