The holiday season makes me want to curl up in a cozy spot with a drink in hand, or sit around a fire with a drink in hand, or visit with relatives with a drink in hand, or… you pretty much you get the picture. And I'm not talking about just any old drink.
More from MamásLatinas: 12 Pics of the worst Christmas tree fails in history
This time of year I prefer a Latin holiday beverage of sorts. I'm sure I'm not alone, so I've put together some wonderful Latin libations to make merry with, some are old-ish, some are new-ish and all of them are festive!
Coquito
The traditional Puerto Rican coquito is basically Christmas in a glass. Every sip is a little gift to you.
Check out the video, so you can make some this season!
Cranberry mojito
Tell me that a cranberry mojito during the holidays isn't perfection and I will just refuse to believe you! It's a wonderful and refreshing combination. And trust me this cranberry mojito recipe is very easy to follow.
Ponche de frutas
Making your own ponche de frutas is awesome because not only does it taste like the holidays when you sip it, its beautiful fragrance makes your entire home smell like the holidays.
Here's a video recipe for you to check out:
Rompope
Rompope is like a spiked version of egg nog and it's very popular in Mexico, Costa Rica and El Salvador. You could buy the premade store-bought kind or you could follow this excellent recipe and brew up a batch of coconut cream honey rompope.
Copa Verde
Since avocados are available year round, it makes sense to include them in our holiday coctails, no? The Copa Verde cocktail features other Latin favorites like tequila and lime.
Champurrado
Champurrado is Mexican hot chocolate thickend with harina. It's delicious and as heartwarming as a hug from your abuela on Christmas. If you've never had it, this is the year to make champurrado for the first time.
Mexican ponche
When it's ready to be sipped, ponche Navideño may look like all the other delicious ponches, but it's not. One of the things that makes Mexican ponche Navideño different is that it includes tecojotes, a fruit used by the Aztecs.
Cola de mono
Cola de mono is a traditional Chilean Yuletide drink. It is made with milk, coffee, spices and combined with aguardiente like pisco.
Ponche crema
Venezuelan ponche crema is a creamy delight made of milk, sugar, eggs and rum. It's on the eggy noggy spectrum, but creamier if you can imagine that.
