We put Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer to the test & here are the results

I'm a serious pain in the ass when it comes to makeup, especially concealers. If I'm going to invest the money on a product that costs more than 20 bucks, it better conceal and leave me looking flawless. I had a nightmare acne breakout reaction to a retinol product my skin couldn't handle and was left with three annoying dark spots on my face. The challenge was to find a concealer that can actually cover these manchas and won't leave me looking like a caked hot mess. I decided to put the cult favorite Tarte Shape Tape to the test.

Let me start off by saying that I've used the Tarte Shape Tape before. I use it. It's one of my faves. BUT I've only used it on clear skin. My skin has looked incredible for most of 2017, thanks to my new Korean skin care routine (but that's a different story for a different day.)

Finding a good concealer that looks great on almost flawless skin isn't much of a challenge. But finding a good concealer that can actually conceal something as noticeable as new post-acne dark spots. Now that's a challenge. My hopes were high though, especially considering this cult-favorite has sold out multiple times

My skin tone is naturally tan with yellow undertones. Makeup artist tend to refer to it as caramel, so I went for the concealer in shade "Tan." By the way this thing comes in 14 shades, which is a pretty big deal when it comes to concealer. More than half of them are for medium and dark skin tones. Kudos to Tarte for that!

With just one thin layer of concealer my manchitas were covered. You literally could NOT tell I had a single mancha on my face. The second challenge for the concealer, though: Was I going have to reapply this thing all day? Or were people going to see my manchas in a few hours?

I kept checking my makeup throughout the day and the dark spots were still fully covered. In fact, by the time I left work, my dark spots were still nowhere to be seen, to the point where my co-worker was like, "Your face really cleared up from that breakout allergic reaction!"

"Wait, so you can't tell it left behind dark spots?" I asked. "No, not at all!" she said shocked by the question.

That's right, ladies. This concealer is freaking life changing. I'm still bummed out to know that it will probably be at least another 2-3 weeks before these post-acne marks are fully gone and faded, but it's good to know that the Tarte Shape Tape has got me covered in the meantime.
