There are countless of beauty myths that have lingered for generations, but separating fact from fiction is the hard part. While many seem to lean on the fabricated side of the makeup aisle, there are a surprising number of beauty myths that are actually true. Are you guilty of some of these?

Picking up your hair tightly does make it fall out: There's nothing wrong with styling your hair in a polished tight bun or ponytail, but doing it way too frequently does cause you to lose more hair. Pulling your hair strand from the root should be avoided as much as possible–especially since it takes a long time for it to grow back.
Keeping nail polish in the fridge does make it last longer: You buy your favorite color; apply it several times and then all of a sudden it starts to get heavy and clumpy on you. The secret to making your nail polish last is sticking it in the fridge. Makeup chemist Mort Westman explains that keeping the nail polish in a cool temperature avoids the mixture from getting lumpy. Chemistry works magic!
Standing in one place for too long can cause varicose veins: As much as we want to laugh this one off as a myth, it's also true. The pressure of standing for too long causes your veins to weaken, which affects the blood flow. When the blood clogs, it causes the pressure to build, which results in varicose veins. Make sure you move around, stretch and avoid standing in one area.
Your pH balance could change the smell of your perfume: Ever buy a perfume you loved on someone else, but it smelled differently once you tried it? It's not your mind playing tricks on you. Perfume reacts differently on people's skin depending on the acidity level it reacts to.
Applying makeup can give you wrinkles: This is actually true! It's not so much what kind of makeup you use, but how you use it. Stretching your skin, specifically the area around your eyes, could cause you to get wrinkles faster. Makeup artist Donna Kelly explains, "Don't pull on your eyes and stretch them so you can put on your eyeliner. It's about moving your whole face when you're applying makeup, not stretching it so it's flat."
