Beautifulpeople.com launches “Adopt an Ugly Person” campaign & it’s disgusting

If you're still not convinced we live in a vain and shallow society, wait until you hear about Beautifulpeople.com. It's a dating website that only allows "beautiful" people on its pages. I can't even believe a site like this actually exists. But it gets worse. It recently launched a campaign called, "Adopt an Ugly Person" that aims to help less attractive folks improve their looks and find a date. How messed up is this crap?

The site which is aimed at self-proclaimed "beautiful people," launched in 2001. It requires members to submit photos of themselves which are ranked by existing members who ultimately decide whether or not to accept them. The new "Adopt an Ugly Person" campaign basically takes all those rejected people and provides them with advice on how to look better.

I don't know about you, but this really has me pissed off. Who the hell do these people think they are? And who are they to determine what's beautiful and what's ugly? Apparently I'm not the only one upset about this controversial campaign. A number of journalists have already expressed their outrage on the whole thing including, New York Times reporter, Jacob Berstein who called the whole thing "repulsive." But Darren Shuster of Pop Culture Public Relations who handles the account for BeautifulPeople.com, doesn't get what all the fuss is about.

"This is getting ridiculous," he wrote. "Why is it okay for Allure, Cosmo and others to pump out makeover stories 365 days a year but BeautifulPeople.com can't launch a mentorship program?" I'm sorry, but the fact that there's even a dating site only for "beautiful people" out there is hard to stomach. It literally brings me back to my high school days where only the good-looking kids got to be popular. It's disgusting!

They might think they're doing the site's rejects a favor with their "Adopt and Ugly Person" campaign but it's actually a really crappy thing to do. No one likes to be told they're ugly especially from a self-proclaimed "beautiful" person who's giving you advice on how to look more like them. Call me crazy or old fashion but I still believe in loving yourself just the way you are. And if you want to make improvements to your appearance there's nothing wrong with that, but don't tolerate someone calling you ugly in the process!
