I have a cousin who has a banging body full of amazing curves. She doesn't know it, but the girl has a serious cuerpazo! So I was furious when I heard that one of our great aunts told her she looked fat. Worse part is she didn't directly say she was "fat." Instead, she threw her one of those passive aggressive Latino comments our abuelas are infamous for making like, "You were so much skinnier last time I saw you. What happened?" Mind you the last time she saw her my cousin was like 12.
You'd think after all those years of insulting people that they'd know better by now, but no. I'm always so stunned by the shocking amount of people that think it's okay to comment on a woman's body. No people, it's totally NOT okay to tell a girl she looks fat!

I don't know what is about Latino family members (and even friends) that makes them feel so entitled to comment on a woman's size, especially if she's on the curvier side. But it's NEVER EVER acceptable. In fact, there's actually quite a few curvy-girl related comments out there that most women are sick of hearing. Here are 10 things you should never say to chica who isn't rail thin!
But you have such a pretty face: She knows that already and she also has a killer bod too that happens to be filled with amazing curves.
Have you tried losing weight? Ummm … she knows how her body looks and knows how to eat well and exercise. If she wanted your weight-loss advice she would have asked.
I'm SO FAT: Okay now you're just being a jerk. NEVER complain about being fat in front of a girl who's obviously bigger than you. It's a subtle way of telling her you think she looks like a hippo. And believe me, she's not going to react well to your stupid comment.
Your body would look amazing if it was more toned. It probably would, but remind me again how that's any of your business?
You're not fat, you're thick: Skinny chicks seem to have the misconception that thick is a much nicer way to call someone fat. It's not, if anything it's just as bad. If you MUST label her body, call it curvy!
You're not fat: You're right, she's not. She's curvy and fabulous!
Are you pregnant? My poor cousin got asked this question … luckily she was! But still if a woman doesn't volunteer to tell you she's pregnant, it's probably safe for you to assume that she's not.
You should be a plus-sized model: This is technically not an insult, but because the term "plus-size" still tends to rub women the wrong way, maybe think of a better compliment.
If you ate less, you'd probably lose weight: FYI: Not all big girls have a big appetite. Just thought you should know.
I wish I had curves like you: Now that you can say. See you're starting to get the hang of this!
