Toddler swallows 42 fridge magnets & is thankfully okay after surgery!

If there is one thing that is taught in parenting 101, it's that toddlers are curious beings that need to be watched at all times. This was a hard lesson learned for a Russian mother in Chelyabinsk, Russia whose __16-month-old son reportedly swallowed 42 fridge magnets while she wasn't supervising him, for only a few minutes she says.

The shocking discovery was made when she noticed the magnets missing and rushed him to the hospital where doctors x-rayed his abdomen and were shocked to discover the numerous magnets. WOW!

I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like for this mom to deal with a scare like that! Forty-two magnets is a CRAZY amount for this child to have swallowed with ease. I'm so glad that his mom rushed him to the hospital as quickly as she did–and that he didn't choke on any of them!–because he could have gotten so sick!

According the U.K. Daily Mail, the boy's pediatric surgeon, Nikolay Rostovtsev, was also shocked by the discovery. He explained that he's removed random items from children's stomachs in the past, but after taking out so many magnets from the boy's stomach, he knew he'd never seen anything like it.

The toddler is currently recovering from the abdominal surgery, but doctors urge that parents pay closer attention to their children–especially at that age–because curiosity overcomes them causing accidents such as this one.

I'm glad to hear the little boy is getting better after having swallowed all those magnets! It just goes to show you that although they may just be toddlers, they are quicker than we think and need to be watched at ALL times. It's understandable that they'll want to place foreign objects into their mouths at that age, which is why baby proofing at home is important! This mom was lucky that the boy wasn't harmed by swallowing the magnets. So, moms, let's make sure we always supervise our little ones–no matter what you're doing–to avoid these these types of accidents!
