America Ferrera was born in Los Angeles, California, on April 1984. She was named after her mother America Griselda Ayes, who was born on April 14, when Día de las Américas is celebrated. I tell you this because to me, the Oscar-nominated actress is a treasure to the Americas—and the US in particular—which is why I’m a tad surprised that she’s living it up in London.

And when I say she’s living it up in London, I don’t mean she’s on vacation. She seems to seriously be considering living in London with her kids and husband. This isn’t her first time in London. She was there in 2011, when she played Roxie in the production of the musical Chicago at the Garrick Theatre for eight weeks. OK, going there for a stint in a show is one thing, but moving there with her family is a much bigger thing.
Are we losing her to England? Here’s what we know.
She was seen in an area of London where other celebs live.
According to a source that spoke to Hello!, America was seen “out and about in Barnes.” Barnes is a district in southwest London that other celebrities, like for example Stanley Tucci, have claimed as their home.
Not only that, supposedly she’s also been visiting schools.
“It looks like she’s planning to move to southwest London,” a source told the publication, adding that she “has been checking out the local private school for her children.”
America has two children with husband Ryan Piers William.
The longtime couple met in 2005 and got married in 2011. They welcomed son Sebastian Piers Williams in 2018 and daughter Lucia Marisol Williams in 2020. The kids are elementary school age, which would explain why America would be checking out schools for them in London.
It was reported that she went to an open day at a private school in the Barnes area.
“She was seen there at the open day and appeared very happy with what she saw,” the Hello! source shared. “It’s a school with a lot of celebrity children at it so her kids would fit in very well.”
It's a school where her kids could be comfortable.
“People don’t treat the celeb kids any differently to the other children” at the school she visited, the source noted. I suppose that would mean the kids could just go on about their education as if their mother wasn’t famous.
The first time she went to London was in the early 2000s.
“I first came to London for work when I was 18 and I remember having tea and sandwiches in the hotel lobby as soon as we arrived. I also saw my first West End show, This is Our Youth, at the Garrick, which is where I’m performing now, funnily enough,” she told The Standard.
Then came her London stage debut.
After the success of Ugly Betty, which ran from 2006 to 2010, America headed to London in 2011 to headline in the musical Chicago at the Garrick Theatre. At a press conference for the show, she said that ever since her childhood she’d “dreamed” of performing onstage in London.
She was also in England for the filming of ‘Barbie.’
The set for Barbieland in the Barbie movie that America was such a standout in was constructed in Leavesden, Hertfordshire, at the Warner Bros. studios. Leavesden isn’t too far from London, so it’s possible America spend some time in London while filming.
In September, she was also in London as an ambassador.
She is the International Organization of Migration’s Global Goodwill Ambassador. She visited the London headquarters in early September prior to the United Nations General Assembly, which she attended to “to amplify the vital role of migration in addressing the most pressing challenges of our time.”
If she is moving to London, she’ll be in good company.
Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, and their daughters Esmeralda and Amada have been living in the Notting Hill area for the past few months. What brings them there? Ryan is filming sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary at Shepperton Studios in Surrey.
