Let's talk about nursery designs and inspiration. First off, when it comes to designing a nursery that works for you and your baby, you are perfectly capable of doing it. Pretty please do not put pressure on yourself to create some kind of magazine-worthy nursery. Also, don't feel like you have to break the bank to create a space that your baby will enjoy. You can create a nursery with whatever budget you have to work with and honestly, babies don't care how much you spend on their crib or changing table. What they will enjoy the most about their nursery is the time they spend with you in it.

Oh, and make no mistake that the baby's nursery is as much for you as it is for them. In some ways it could be argued that the nursery is more for you than for the baby because you will be spending a lot of time in there and it needs to be set up to be functional for you and also provide the kind of atmosphere that will soothe you when baby is fussy and doesn't want to go to sleep or doesn't want you to leave. So whatever you do, don't decorate your baby's nursery without considering your own needs. To that end, we've gathered some nursery design ideas that are bound to inspire you.
Create a cozy corner for yourself.
This is a corner that you create for your comfort. You'll want a comfortable chair that you can hold your baby in, feed your baby in, sing to your baby in, and so on. A little table next to it doesn't hurt because you can put snacks for yourself there or anything else you might want handy.
Choose colors that you find soothing.
What colors relax you? Give this plenty of thought and consideration because we're not all the same. Some people find dark colors somber and depressing, while others find them soothing. Whatever you do, don't fill the nursery with colors that don't appeal to you just because you think they will appeal to baby.
Have fun with the walls.
Think of the walls as a canvas that you can do all sorts of things to. You can paint murals on them, hang things on them, and decorate them in all sorts of clever ways. Even if you are a renter and can't paint or put things on the walls that might damage them, you can add decals that are easy to remove.
You can totally DIY abstract walls.
Unless you're a talented artist, doing a DIY nursery mural might be a bit challenging. But you know what's not quite as challenging and totally something you can DIY? Creating an abstract design on a nursery wall. You don't even have to do the whole room, you can just do one wall.
Who says elegant can’t be a nursery theme?
Yes, elegant can totally be a nursery theme. Nurseries can go beyond clowns or jungle themes; not that there is anything wrong with those themes. The thing is that if clowns or jungles aren't your thing, and elegant is, then go with elegant.
Boho works as a nursery vibe.
A Boho nursery can make you feel like you've stepped into some kind of vacation spot. Sure, there are still diapers to be changed and all, but somehow it all feels more vacation-y when your surroundings are all bohemian inspired.
Look to the stars for inspiration.
You could paint one wall a dark blue and add silver or gold stars to that wall. Or you could use the stick-on kind of stars that glow in the dark too. That alone makes the room feel like it has a great view of the skies at night.
Make it rain!
Seriously, how cute is this idea of painting a rain cloud on the wall and having it rain into the baby's crib? And you could make the raindrops any color you like or even go with different color raindrops to hint at a rainbow.
Muted rainbows are a great starting point.
And since we brought up rainbows, let's not forget that they make for a lovely nursery theme. Also, they don't have to be the actual colors of an actual rainbow. If you prefer a more muted color palette, then go for it!
If you prefer brighter rainbows, then bright on!
Bright rainbows are also fun and again, they don't have to actually be inspired by the colors we see in actual rainbows. Play around with colors and see what colors make you feel happy or relaxed or whatever vibe you are going for.
Get bookish!
Children are never to young to be read to. You can start reading to them from day one. Creating a nursery that celebrates books and makes them easy to grab and read is a great idea. As your baby gets older you can swap out the titles.
A chalkboard wall lets you keep changing things up.
Chalkboard walls are wonderful because they can transition from a nursery to a toddler's room to even a young child's room. You can draw things on them and use them to teach your children numbers, letters, and colors.
Stock up on cute baskets to use as storage.
Baskets are so useful in a nursery. You can use them to store just about anything and they are easy to reach into a grab things out of. You can also find them in so many cute varieties. As your child gets older, the baskets will still come in handy for storing toys.
Will you be sharing a room?
Sometimes, you don't have a whole room to spare. If that's the case, you can create a nursery area in a shared room. It's not a bad idea to hang curtains around the crib so that you can keep that area dark and peaceful when baby is sleeping, but you're not ready to call it a night.
Get creative.
Work with what you have. You can use a regular table as a changing table. It will work just fine and can go back to being a regular table once you stop needing a changing table. Also, if you have a guest room that you are turning into a nursery, why not keep the bed in it so that you can lay in there comfortably sometimes?
