Charlotte is such a sweet name for a little girl, and is undeniably experiencing a surge in popularity thanks to England's Princess Charlotte, the only daughter of Prince William. She was of course named after Prince Charles, the heir to the throne.

Did you know that the name Amelia means, "work?" Interesting, right? It's No. 7 on this list of popular girl names and interestingly enough three people come to mind when we hear it: the history-making pilot Amelia Earhart of course, the children's book character Amelia Bedelia and the fictional character, neurosurgeon Dr. Amelia Shepherd from the long-running television series Grey's Anatomy. All hard workers!

8. Mia

The No. 8 name on the list, Mia, is a pretty name on its own, but it's actually also a common nickname for Amelia, the current No. 7 name. In Italian it means "mine," but a more traditional meaning is "of the sea."

People still love classic names, but often want to put a twist on them, which may explain the rise in popularity of the name Emani. It's a variation of the traditional Middle Eastern name Iman, and an alternate spelling for the better known Imani.

On the Rise: Alaia

Alaia is beautiful name of Basque origin that means "joyous" or "happy." "A" names have long been popular for baby girls in the US, so it's no big surprise that expectant mamás are on the hunt for something a bit different and this musical-sounding name certainly fits the bill.

On the Rise: Navy

We actually really love this one. It's interesting enough to make someone notice, but not so out there that it's weird, especially after Beyoncé named her daughter Blue. And while it could also work for a boy, we like it better as a girls' name.

On the Rise: Alaiya

Alaiyah isn't just a unique looking name, it sounds unusual, too. It seems to be an alternative spelling for the name Alaia, and while it's not one we see all the time, it's definitely coming up the ranks, so we expect to be hearing it in kindergarten classrooms around the country in the coming years.

On the Rise: Ainhoa

Also originally from the Basque region on the border of France and Spain, the name Ainhoa has religious roots. It comes from a town of the same name on the French side of the border that is known for being the site where the spirit of the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to a shepherd.

On the Rise: Amoura

The name Amoura of course comes from the Spanish word amor which means love, and we totally get why someone would want to name their little girl something so sweet. It's definitely one of those made-up names. Regardless, it does sound pretty.

On the Rise: Oakleigh

Yup, pronounced like the athletic apparel brand. It's unclear how this one became so popular, but it's actually considered a gender neutral name and has been working its way up the ranks for a while. It was originally a surname and alternate spellings include Oakley and Oaklee.

On the Rise: Yaritza

Growing up, we probably all had a cousin or neighbor or schoolmate named Yaritza, but it definitely wasn't common outside of the Latino community. So we're not sure whether it's on the rise because there are now more Latinx couples having babies in the US, or if its popularity is widespread. For those who don't know, it means "little butterfly."

On the Rise: Theodora

The name Theodora is of course the feminine of the boys' name Theodore. Meaning of "gift of God," we would guess that it's rising popularity comes from parents who like the idea of using "Teddy" as a nickname for their little girl.

On the Rise: Abigail

To be honest, we're actually surprised Abigail still hasn't broken the top 10 girls names in America. I mean how many Abbys do you know? It seems like there's at least one Abby in every circle, so we're sure this one is so, so close to breaking through.
