Scurry was awakened the morning of August 5, by what she believed to be Braxton Hicks (false labor) contractions, but when the contractions continued to intensify, she decided to have her fiancée drive her to the hospital.
The couple got dressed, dropped their older daughter off with family, and immediately headed to the hospital, but before they made it there Raelin knew that she needed to start pushing.
She called 911 from the car, but she was so scared that she had to have her fiancée speak to the operator. Seconds later she reached down, felt her baby's head, pushed once and her son was born.
The 911 operator told them to pull over and wait for an ambulance, but Raelin noticed that her baby was still completely encased in the amniotic sac. Knowing that they were closer to the hospital than the ambulance was to them, she told her fiancée to keep driving.

The baby was not moving and Scurry was scared for his life. She instinctively began to rub his face with her hand through the amniotic sac, which he immediately reacted to, reassuring her that he was okay.
Several minutes later the family arrived at the hospital where they received immediate care. Little EJ was born 11 weeks early, at just three pounds and one ounce.
In a truly phenomenal case, he was born en caul–still in the amniotic sac–which happens in only 1 in 80,000 births, most commonly C-section births. EJ was born completely naturally.
Even more incredibly, his young mama delivered him without medical assistance, and managed to keep her cool and with the help of her partner get her preemie safely to the hospital.
Though she initially only shared pictures of a cleaned up, content EJ, this impressive mama later shared a snap from the car when the baby was still attached to her, and she was holding him still in the amniotic sac.

For obvious reasons, the stunning photo, which I'm sure was snapped in a frenzy, has gone viral and now has over seven thousand likes and more than 500 comments.
Raelin and her tiny baby are doing well, and are excited to begin life as a family of four.
