I've always wondered how I'd react if I was with a pregnant woman whose water suddenly broke. Would I remain calm and collected or would I panic? Considering how chicken I normally get under these sorts of circumstances, chances are I'd panic. If only I was half as brave as that eight-year-old girl who helped her mom deliver her baby brother at home. How was this even possible?

Apparently the girl's mom went into an early labor right in their home this past Monday. And instead of freaking out, the little girl calmly called 911 and followed the instructions given by a dispatcher. But unlike her daughter, 29-year-old mom Krystle Garcia was panicking–and understandably so. She was bleeding excessively. You have to hear this poor woman screaming in the background of the recording!
Tampa Fire Rescue dispatched paramedics to the woman's home but in the meantime it was up to Garcia's daughter, Jazmine McEnaney, to help with the delivery. "She's in so much pain," she told dispatchers who then advised her to get some dry towels and a blanket to wrap the baby in. She was also told to find a string or shoelace to help tie off the umbilical chord and a safety pin to tear the amniotic sac.
"Oh my God, she's freaking out–she's only 8 years old," Garcia is heard saying in the recording while her daughter helped support the baby's head and shoulders as it was coming out. But Jazmine kept her cool and managed to help deliver the baby before paramedics finally arrived.
Garcia's baby boy, Joseph James Snyder, was delivered in her home. Once paramedics came to the scene she was transferred to Tampa General Hospital and was in good condition. I still can't believe how calm this kid was. I wouldn't have even been that calm! "If it wasn't for her being as calm as she was, it would've been a lot worse," Garcia said. "Even though she [the dispatcher] was telling her what to do, that's a lot for an 8-year-old. I think it's something that's brought us closer."
This is the sweetest story I've heard, I'm so touched by this little girl's bravery. This is definitely something she'll remember for the rest of her life!
