Tasha Adams is a 28-year-old stay at home mom to three children. She lives in Toad Suck, Arkansas where alcohol is banned. I don't know what to be more shocked at, the name of the town or the fact that alcohol is banned. How is that even legal? Anyway, Adams was in Conway, Arkansas where you are allowed to booze it up. She was there for a funeral and after the funeral she stopped at Gusano's Restaurant for dinner with her parents and her 6-month-old who was still nursing. I would not want to eat at a place called Gusano's, but that is just me. While at this dining establishment Conway says she had two beers. At some point she nursed her baby and the next thing she knew she was under arrest and in jail for endangering the life of a child.

I've heard of of people getting arrested for driving while under the influence, but this might be the first time I ever hear of someone getting arrested while breastfeeding under the influence and she wasn't even given the benefit of a Breathalyzer test, so how the heck do the cops even know if she had too much to drink?
What happened was that an off-duty waitress, Jackie Connors, came in for a meeting and from what she surveyed, Adams appeared to have had more than a few beers. Connors says, "There were several drinks in front of her, about … I watched the bartender make them, looked like Long Islands. But regardless if it was that or not, then it was strong liquor that was in those glasses."
I'm not sure if Connors saw Adams drink those drinks or just assumed she had. Regardless, Connors approached the restaurant's management with her concerns and when the manager did nothing about it, she called the cops.
The cops showed up, Adams admitted to having two beers and to later breastfeeding. There is no law against drinking and breastfeeding, but the police made a judgement call and arrested Adams.
"I'll say it till the day I die. I was sober enough to breastfeed my kid," the mom maintains. She wishes the police had given her a Breathalyzer test so that she could prove her point, but Conway police only give Breathalyzer tests to suspected drunk drivers, not suspected drunk breastfeeders.
My gut believes Adams and that she was fine to breastfeed. I know that some people are very adamant about not having a drop of alcohol while breastfeeding, but I'm not one of those people. I'm not saying you should party like it's 1999 and then stick a boob in your infants mouth, but I don't think a drink here or there is foreboden. I myself have had a drink while breastfeeding and I can tell you I was not drunk and I am not worried that I may have somehow endangered my children.
As for Connors calling the cops? Even though my gut tells me that Adams was fine to breastfeed, I don't blame Connors one bit for calling the cops. She was worried about a baby and there is nothing wrong with that. She has since been fired from her waitressing job which is really a shame because she was acting as a private citizen. Even Adams seems to understand why Connors did what she did and says, "Whether it was right or wrong in my eyes is different, you know, but if she really thought my baby was in danger, you know, maybe she done the right thing."
Oh and in case you are wondering, the charges against Adams have been dropped because there isn't enough evidence to proove that she consumed too much alcohol to nurse.
