So a pre-K teacher is under fire for sending her 3- and 4-year-old students home with a note urging their parents to give them a bath and dress them in clean clothes. Ok, she didn't say it in as many words, but that's pretty much what she meant. And, in all honesty, I'm having a hard time seeing what she did wrong.

Teacher Sharon Dunnigan, a 30-year elementary school veteran in Buffalo, New York, was blunt in her note, no doubt about that, but she claims she wanted to make her point loud and clear. Take a look at what the note said and see what you think:
Several children in pre-K ages 3-4 are coming to school (sometimes daily) with soiled, stained, or dirty clothes. Some give off unpleasant smells and some appear unclean and unkept. Parents please take care of this matter. It is a health and safety concern. It also makes it difficult for me to be close to them or even want to touch them. Enough said.
Okay, maybe she could've said the same thing in a nicer way, but I imagine the situation was pretty dire for her to send such a harsh note.
As was to be expected, several parents are up in arms (I wonder if it was the ones whose kids the teacher was referring to) and are asking the school to punish Dunnigan. A few school board members have also criticized the teacher and she has been prohibited from sending notes home without her principal's approval.
While I feel really bad for the little kids, this is not their teacher's fault, but rather their parents'. It is their responsibility to make sure their kids are as clean as possible when they go to school. I'm the first one to admit that it's hard to keep little ones clean at all times, but they should at least start the day bathed and with clean clothes. There simply is NO excuse for sending your kids to school dirty and smelly!
