They say behind every great man is a strong woman and in the case of Barack and Michelle Obama, we have to agree. The First Lady is intelligent, eloquent, and an extremely attentive wife and mother. Plus, she takes an active role in many important causes, like her Let’s Move! campaign, which fights against childhood obesity and recently had its 2 year anniversary. Now, she’s taken to YouTube to dish on her personal parenting experience and dole out some advice on what you can do to get your kids to eat healthy. Here are some of her tips!
- Start early: The sooner your kids start eating fruits and vegetables, the more likely they are to continue eating them. “It is much easier to get kids to eat healthy foods if it’s always been part of our lives,” said the First Lady.
- Let them decide: Allowing your kids to pick the fruits and vegetables that they like, instead of trying to make them eat specific kinds, will make them eating healthy more enjoyable for them and less of an issue for you.
- Buy fresh produce: “It tastes so much better when it’s fresh,” she stated. And when kids like the taste, they’ll want to eat more of it!
- Make healthy food available: It’s all about location, location, location! “I like to leave a fresh bowl of fruit in the kitchen so that it’s easy for the girls to reach,” she said. Follow her example and you’ll probably notice that your kids are more likely to go for a healthy snack instead of a salty or sweet one.
