10 Facts about Luis Miguel that you never ever imagined

Health issues seem to have forced Luis Miguel off the stage, but the Mexican legend doesn't plan to quit being in the limelight just yet. El Sol de Mexico just announced plans for a TV series about his life, produced by none other than Celebrity Apprentice mastermind Mark Burnett. Here are 10 surprising facts about Luis Miguel that few people know–and that we think need to be part of this new show!

He wasn't born in México.

It's true. While he is considered one of the most iconic and succesfull Mexican artists, Luis Miguel was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

His parents aren't Mexican either.

His mom was the Italian actress Marcela Bastery and his dad, Spanish singer Luis Gallego, better known by his stage name Luisito Rey.

His mother disappeared in 1986.

Luis Miguel was only 16 years old when his mother was seen for the last time. There have been many theories over the years, but no one knows for sure –or has said anything to the public–about what happened to her.

There have been rumors about his health for years.

In 2010, he was hospitalized for several days in Los Angeles. There was speculation about a bacterial infection in his lungs after plastic surgery, but there was never an explanation to the press. In the last two years, he has cancelled concerts, sometimes after appearing on stage for just a few minutes. He's even been sued and had to pay fines for breaking his contract. His lawyers have recently presented documents to the courts confirming he has tinnitus, a persistent ringing in the ears.

Before Jennifer Lopez or Ricky Martin even thought about a residency in Las Vegas, LuisMi was already king there.

In 1996, he became the best paid Latino artist in Sin City for a series of concerts.

He did a duet with Frank Sinatra.

He was part of the stars that sang with Ol'Blue Eyes in the album Duets II, released in 1994. It was Sinatra's last studio album before his death in 1998.

LuisMi has three kids, but has never been married.

Luis Miguel's eldest daughter, model Michelle Salas, was born in 1989 after a brief romance with Stephanie Salas, one of Alejandra Guzmán's nieces. However, he didn't admit he was her dad until she was a teenager.

During his relationship with La Doña's Aracely Arámbula, Luis Miguel had Miguel in 2007 and Daniel in 2008. Unfortunately, the actress has often talked about the fact that LuisMi hardly ever sees his kids.

He has been quite a ladies man.

Famous or infamous for fiercely guarding his private life, he seems to have had a change of heart:

"It has taken me a long time to want to tell my story and I have been looking for the right team to tell it the way it should be told," said Luis Miguel in a statement when he announced the series on Twitter. "Mark and the Gato Grande team are the perfect partners for this."  

I hope he explains why he made the decision as well, but honestly, even if he doesn't, I can't wait!
