New Year's Eve was a somber day for this Utah family who made headlines back in September. Kathy Taylor, the woman who refused cancer treatment while pregnant with her sixth child, lost her battle with terminal cancer. The 34-year-old mother was diagnosed with melanoma six months into her pregnancy and did everything she could to make sure her unborn son was given a chance to live. It's so heartbreaking that baby Luke couldn't make it. He was born two weeks premature and passed away from an infection two weeks later on September 27. I don't know how this family is able to survive in the face of so much tragedy. Taylor's husband, Nathan, opened up about her death and his words will make you cry.

In his blog, the father of five painfully describes passing out after realizing that his wife had died and the rush of emotions that came after:
As I realized she had gone I gathered her in my arms and embraced her. I could not believe it. I was so sad that I had been asleep and not been with her when she passed. I was so sad it was already goodbye.
His words brought tears to my eyes. Within a few months, this man has lost his wife and son. I can't even imagine what their other five kids must be going through right now. In such a short period, cancer managed to destroy this woman's body and gave her son a small fighting chance to survive.
Nathan also writes about having to tell his children about their tragic loss:
I spent about 10 minutes alone with her and then brought in the kids. It was traumatic for them. I will share some thoughts at another time as I need to go be with the kids. I love you Kathy. I hope you know that. Woman of unwavering faith.
She had so much strength and was a true warrior. Fighting cancer without treatment must have been excuriatingly painful and emotionally taxing. Hopefully she and Luke are together now and will serve as angels for the rest of the family.
