A young Pennsylvania couple, Jenna and Dan Haley, were over the moon to find out that they were having a baby boy, Shane. Then they found out that their unborn son, Shane, was diagnosed with a complex neural defect, anencephaly, which kills most infants soon after birth. It causes babies to be born without parts of their brain and skull. Most children who are born with this condition die soon after being born.
I can only imagine how heartbreaking this news must have been to the soon-to-be parents. It had to be one of the most devestating things to ever happen to a parent. They took it better than I ever could have and they made the best out of what can only be described as the worst situation. They chose to love their baby as much and for as long as they could.

Jenna and Dan Haley decided to have a bucket list for their unborn son, Shane. The Haleys took Shane, in utero, to all of their favorite spots to do all their favorite things. This is a list that many of us make a mental note to do someday with our children, to revisit our favorite places with. The Haleys know that their time with Shane is precious and fleeting and so they are sharing it all with him now. The Haleys have completed the entire bucket list and have taken Shane on many adventures. When he is born, they will spend every moment loving him without distraction and really, what more can any child hope for?
This has made me think, why put off what we can do today? I have many places I want to see with my girls, many things to do and experience, memories to make and stories to share. I'm going to make a list tonight and I plan to start crossing things off our list immediately. In fact, there are things we did this summer that were on my mental bucket list that I can already cross out and a paper list will give me a direction to make plans. Isn't that what life is about?
