Amazingly selfless elementary school teacher donates kidney to 8-year-old student

An Ohio elementary school teacher is teaching her students–and the rest of the world–about the power of giving by donating her kidney to a young girl in her class.

Eight-year-old Nicole Miller suffers from a genetic disorder that left her with one failing kidney. Though eighteen people in her community volunteered to donate to the little girl (which is pretty amazing in itself), none were a match. Miller's parents were quickly losing hope–until their daughter's teacher, Wendy Killian, stepped forward.

At a parent-teacher conference last year, Killian offered to help her young student. After going through so many people and not finding a match, Miller's parents didn't expect a miracle–but that's exactly what they got. Killian and the young girl turned out to be the perfect match!

"I'm going to be going through a major surgery, but you know, it's only going to be a few weeks of my life," Killian said of her generous gesture. "But to this little girl, it is her whole life." Besides, Killian views the donation as repaying a favor as her own son, William, was saved by a donor!

Wow! This is one of those incredible stories that just warms my heart and renews my faith in humanity. It's just amazing to be reminded that there are still people as selfless as Killian in the world. She's obviously not just a great teacher, but also a genuinely good individual. Thanks to her kind act, this little girl's life will get to grow up like any other kid and freely enjoy her childhood.
