I volunteered as a teen, so I thought I was a pretty good kid all-around, but now Evan from Philadelphia is making me rethink this since he is clearly the world's most selfless kid EVER. Ever since he was 7 years old and got a kitty, Macha, from the local rescue group City Kitties, he has committed to donating his hard-earned allowance money for a holiday gift to the shelter along with a very sweet handwritten note.

In his original letter, Evan thanked City Kitties for his new cat and told them that he LOVES cats so much. He ended that letter with: "I get an allowance every week and I chose to make a donation to you. I love that you help cats find homes. I saved this money to help you help cats." That year he sent $46.75. The next year, in 2011, he saved up and donated $97.
That's seriously amazing. I mean, what 9-year-old has the self-restraint to save almost $100 to selflessly donate to a pet shelter? Well, this past holiday season, Evan once again topped himself by donating a whopping $110 to City Kitties AND he even convinced his parents to match his kind act for a total of $220 that went to rescue cats.

Seriously, is that not the cutest thing ever?! As a huge cat (and animal) lover, I'm really inspired by Evan's commitment to help shelter animals. But I don't think you have to be a fan of cats to appreciate a well-raised kid who really cares about the world around him. I'm certainly hoping that my kids will follow in Evan's little philanthropic footsteps!
