Do you believe in reading the future?

The other day I was at my friend's Al's birthday and to celebrate it, she invited eight ladies to dinner, but before that, she invited everyone to meet at a bar to sit down individually with a tarot reader–whom she heard was pretty good.

Let me just state for the record that I don't ever do tarot readings, palm readings, crystal ball readings, none of it. It's not that I don't believe in or that I am skeptic, it's simply that it scares me.

Yep, it scares me to "know" what's going to happen. But I know that many other women want to know exactly what's going to happen with their lives in the future.

Tarot fascinates people. After all anything that can give us a glimpse of what's next– or a better understanding about our life–is certainly going to be interesting.

So that Saturday (and on purpose) I went to get a manicure while all the girls were at the bar having their future read and I figured I would get there just in time for the dinner portion of the night.

But the tarot reader was told to wait for me. So when I got there I was surprised but I also had to comply.

"Shit!" I thought to myself. And then I sat down with Chris, whom to my surprise was Puerto Rican (born and raised in NYC) so he did my reading bilingually, which made for a much bigger and personal experience.

Oh my God! As Chris started talking I had goose bumps all over my body, he seemed to know it all about me and have the answers to all the questions that I've kept asking myself about everything.

When my reading began, the first thing Chris told me was, "You are a blessed woman." The first card coming out of my parted deck was the Empress. And the empress he said, "It's a creator, of romance, of art, of business."

It turns out that one is very lucky to get the Empress card during a reading, because it's viewed as one of those cards that indicate a "positive" answer or outcome. The Empress indicates that the Universal energy is about to intervene in your life and I really need a bit of that "Universal Energy" to hit me.

The Empress may also indicate pregnancy or birth but on a metaphorical level, the Empress may represent the birth of a new idea, a product, or a new way of being.

Me. Changing my life, reinventing myself.

Chris told me that new ideas and projects would be implemented resulting in the success of my hard work.

I was happy, because I was two minutes away from going back to a job that I hate.

However he said, the Empress encourages you to spend time in nature to truly connect with Mother Earth and receive her into your heart and mind.

I totally will, I promise Empress.

The Empress is a deeply nurturing and caring card. If you are a mother yourself, you may be exploring your 'mother' role even more deeply and truly appreciating the gift that has been bestowed upon you.

Oh God, I promise to see it as a "gift" only, from now on.

In any case, I am so happy that I met Chris and that I had that reading. It may be ignorant on my part to "believe" but let me say for the record that I actually do.

For many centuries kings and queens used diviners and tarot readers to get answers to their problems. Tarot has been the most popular method of divination in most parts of the world, even scientists and psychologists such as Carl Jung did a ton of studies with the tarot.
