As if we needed any more reasons to be orgulloso of the Latino community, 6 Hispanics, including Rosario Dawson and Jessica Alba, made it on to Fast Company's list of the 100 Most Creative People in Business in 2012. How amazing is that?!
Dawson and Maria Teresa Kumar share 12th place for co-founding Voto Latino, an organization that uses mobile tech and viral strategies to encourage their fellow Latinos to register and vote. The two have even inspired other Hispanic celebrities, like Wilmer Valderrama and Romeo Santos, to help with the cause. ""It's not about telling people what to do–it's about sharing what they can do," said Dawson.
Also on the list? One of our favorite Latina celebrity moms, Jessica Alba! As co-founder of The Honest Company, Alba has brought eco-friendly baby-care and household cleaning products to parents around the world – and she did it all to protect her two daughters, Honor and Haven! "I do love the planet, but the health of my child comes first," she said. What a great mom!
Claire Diaz-Ortiz is not a typical Hollywood celebrity, but that doesn't mean she isn't well-known. Number 21 on the list, Diaz-Ortiz is widely percieved as a master of the social media world. She joined Twitter as the manager of social innovation and has written two book. Now, her ideas on how to use these networks for charity are even being packaged for businesses! Pretty freakin' impressive if you ask me.
And Latina women aren't the only ones on the list—Brazilian team Flavio Pripas and Renato Steinberg, co-founders of fashion.me, also made the cut! In the 54th spot, the duo–who say that they are not fashionistas–say the inspiration for their site actually came from watching their stylish wives shop! Haha, so typical! Not that we can blame – as this list obviously shows, Latinas are inspirational.
I am so excited to see so many groundbreakers and innovators in the community being honored for their amazing work. It's encouraging and motivating to see Latinos making such strives in such a variety of fields. But it also leads me to wonder–what WILL we accomplish next?!
