It is so depressing when no one wins a big lottery jackpot. While on one hand it is good because the next drawing increases, on the other, it just goes to show you how slim your chances of actually winning the lottery really are.
There was no winner for the February 4 Powerball drawing, mean the jackpot is now $250 million. Kind of makes the football pool you are in at work seem less exciting, right? I mean, you could win $250 million dollars if you play the lottery instead. But really, what would you do with $250 million?
It isn't as much money as you think.
Just to get it out of the way, you aren't actually going to receive $250 million. Twenty-five percent will go to the Federal Government, and depending on which state you live in, another 4% to 9% to the state.
Everyone is going to know you won and want stuff. Depending on how generous you are feeling, you are buying at least yourself and your Mami a house. Probably your mother-in-law as well. And maybe one for your kids. You are looking at least 3 or 4 houses. You could eat up a good portion of the money there. And then you have to buy shoes–all of them, every pair you ever liked, in two colors. You are already down to less than half.
Then the kids are going to want to go to college, and get flat screen TVs and iPads and go on vacation. Plus, they need shoes, too. And you will have to have a boat. All that money will be spent by the time you get to buying a vacation house back in your country, and an airplane to fly back and forth.
Oh and you will need staff, at least a pilot for the plane. Now you are paying salaries and health insurance. Plus, the cousins have their hand out every time you turn around. Ugh, this winning Powerball thing, it is a lot of work.
Maybe you are better winning $200 in your office Super Bowl pool. You don't have to pay tax and the money can go right to shoes without being shared.
