The real problem with Kim Kardashian’s weight obsession

Kim Kardashian's body has been a topic of conversation for more than a decade. The public has been fascinated by the reality TV star's physique ever since she became famous. Whether it was an obsession with her larger than life curves or the weight she gained during her first pregnancy, Kim's body has kept people constantly talking about her.

Recently, the KKW Beauty founder has been turning heads with her slimmer than usual frame and how toned and muscular her body looks. While she has always been in tip-top shape due to her career as a model and image being such a major part of her brand, she looks more fit now than ever. Kim credits her incredible transformation to working exclusively with a personal trainer and bodybuilder named Melissa Alcantara for nearly a year. The Keeping up with the Kardashians star says Melissa is the reason why the mom of three has totally changed her workout routine and her body.

Kim's transformation is definitely admirable and seeing her totally committed to working out hard is super inspirational for those who are seeking to lose weight in a healthy way. She has said that she has incorporated heavy weights to her routine, allowing her to get incredible results in such little time.

There's no denying that the Kardashian sisters have a huge influence in the world of entertainment, their fans and their millions of social media followers, so what they say is often glorified and taken seriously by tons of people. Recently, Kim has been under fire for talking about her 20-pound weight loss and even sharing how much she weighs. Her sisters were seen in a video telling her that she looked "anorexic," which caused quite a stir from people who say that is insensitive for people who deal with eating and body image disorders.

Kim told 'E! News' that she currently weighs 116 pounds.

"I’ve been working out really hardcore with a bodybuilder for one year. September is our one-year anniversary,” she shared. “I’ve lost 20 pounds and I’m really proud of that. I was almost 140 forever and now I’m like 116 and it just feels good."

Kim revealed how intense her workouts are.

Kim proudly shared during the interview that she hasn't solely relied on workouts like running. "I do work out really hard in the gym, about an hour and a half every single day. Heavy weights so I don't do a lot of cardio," the slender makeup mogul revealed.

She said it didn't happen overnight and she had to change her lifestyle.

"It's taken a long time and I haven't given up. And I didn't see results right away, but if you really stick with something and you're consistent, you will," she told E! News. "I don't really eat sugar the way that I used to, it doesn't really do it for me. I've kind of been trained to just eat a lot healthier than I used to. I used to just eat anhything and everything and I loved it, and I really do control that now."

While it's not necessary to discredit Kim for her hard work, it's important to see why this could be risky.

Sharing how much you weigh is often something people shy away from. While it's great that Kim feels proud about her accomplisments in her fitness journey, it might be challenging for others who are struggling with being comfortable with their own weight. It's also important to note that Kim is 5′ 3″ so she is under the ideal weight for someone her height.

The famous sisters have also been accused of focusing too much on their weight.

In July, the sisters were in hot water after Kim posted a video of her sister, Khloé Kardashian, saying her waist looked "anorexic." Many fans felt that it sent the wrong message since they used it as a compliment, especially for those actually suffering with the eating disorder. During the current season of Keeping up with the Kardashians, Khloé's extreme concern about gaining weight during her first pregnancy has also been documented. Prior to that, fans took to Twitter to criticize the Good American founder for working out so hard while she was expecting.

Fans shouldn't be comparing their fitness journeys to any famous person.

While it is inspiring that Kim looks so incredible at 37 after carrying two children, it's important to note that she didn't get to look that way without plenty of help and a ton of sacrifices. Most people don't have two hours a day to work out if they have full-time jobs, children and a home to tend to. They also don't have the means to hire nutritionists and personal trainers. Celebrities must be super careful when talking about their weight loss because it could be a trigger to others who are struggling with real issues.

At the end of the day, the numbers on the scale aren't to be taken too serious.

As Kim's trainer Melissa constantly mentions on her Instagram page, the number on a scale doesn't mean much when you're really working on gaining muscle. Melissa has shared that she used to weigh less before when she was doing more cardio training but now she feels more comfortable with her curves and muscles, even if she weighs more. Weight often fluctuates, especially for women, so being obsessed with a number on a scale isn't healthy for anyone. It's all about staying healthy, being consistent and feeling comfortable in your skin, no matter what a scale says.
