Ladies, it might be time to flip the switch on the men in our lives. It may be time to sit ourselves down on the sofa every night and call out, "Honey, can you get me a beer?!" Here are five surprising benefits of beer, my lovelies, so raise a glass and cheers to your health!
1. It is has antioxidants. Yup, red wine isn't the only alcoholic drink in town with antioxidants. Beer is actually higher in antioxidants than wine.
2. It's full of micronutrients. Aside from being rich in antioxidants, it is also anti-inflammatory and contains folate, vitamin B6, niacin, pantothenic acid and riboflavin.
3. It's good for your bones. Beer is rich in silicon which is linked to strong bones. The key here is to not overdo your alcohol consumption because too much alcohol is bad for your bones.
4. It keeps you hydrated. Not only is beer 93 percent water, according to a Spanish study if you are sweating under the hot sun, beer may keep you more hydrated than water alone. Might explain why I crave a cold brewsky on hot days.
5. It has iron. I have been iron-deficient pretty much my whole life. I had no idea that beer could help me with that issue. Darker beers have higher iron content than ligher beers, so if you are going to pretend to drink beer for iron, keep it dark.
Keep in mind that the beers that are going to be the best for you are the dark beers. Also, everything in moderation my eager friend. Don't go getting sloshed on beer and thinking that you are doing yourself or your liver any favors. We're taking about one maybe two beers a day.
Now, where is my hubby with that beer I asked him for?
