Fit beer is the best post-workout drink we’ve ever heard of

If you're an alcohol-lovin' fitness junkie, I've got good news: There is now such a thing as "fit beer" and it could soon become your new favorite post work-out drink!

According to NPR, Canadian beverage company Lean Machine is launching a low-calorie, protein-packed "recovery ale," designed to help replenish the body after a hardcore gym session. So basically it's Gatorade but with alcohol–which honestly doesn't sound half-bad to me!

Apparently, the beer, created by a team of food scientists at Vampt, is only 77 calories and "enriched with nutrients, antioxidants and electrolytes" that help rehydrate and reenergize the body after exercise. It also holds only 0.5 percent alcohol by volume. Aha! I knew there had to be a catch.

Any happy hour goer will know that 0.5 percent isn't very much at all. In fact, it's basically nothing. For comparison, a Sam Adams Pale Ale holds 5.3 percent alcohol by volume. Meanwhile, a NON-alcoholic O'Douls holds 0.4 percent. Sigh. And here I was thinking my  dreams of an actual healthy beer had finally come true!

To be honest, I'm not sure that this "beer" would be worth my money, even if it is "fit" and full of electrolytes. Personally, I think I'd rather just choose either a sports drink or a cold beer, instead of getting half of both. Still, I could see this making waves with fitness freaks who don't want to counteract their productivity with a regular beer, but don't want to settle for just water.

Regardless, if you're curious, the drink is expected to be available later this year, if funding allows. In the meantime, I'll settle for a good, ol'fashioned Blue Moon!
