The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reporting that popular 5-Hour Energy drinks, basically a little shot of a huge amount of caffeine, has been linked to 13 deaths and one miscarriage in the past four years. That's right, the FDA is reporting that not only has the 5-Hour Energy shot caused life-threatening injuries like heart attacks and convulsions, but it's also possibly responsible for people dying and one poor woman losing her baby.

As a big fan of the drink, I have to say: YIKES! I always knew (or suspected) that energy drinks weren't good for me. To be honest, that's why I stayed away from those full-sized ones like Red Bull and Monster Energy (which the FDA linked to five deaths last month). I kept trying to justify me drinking 5-Hour Energy shots by thinking that it was somehow better. I don't do it a lot but, since I don't like coffee, I've definitely had weeks where I had two or three because it was a very long, tiring few days.
Well, now I'm definitely reconsidering it! Actually, scratch that: now I'm definitely never, ever going to drink 5-Hour Energy again. According to The New York Times, 5-Hour Energy has been mentioned in 90 filings with the FDA since 2009, including one for a miscarriage! The agency is looking into the deaths, but the Times writes that the reports "can be fragmentary in nature and difficult to investigate."

Well, fragmented and hard to prove is one thing, but I'm definitely not going to be taking a chance with 5-Hour Energy shots anymore. The company still claims that the drinks are say and that MIGHT be true but I don't want to take any more chances with my life.
