Carbs always get a bad rap when you're trying to lose weight. Most people say when they get rid of carbs such as bread, rice, or pasta and immediately lose weight, but what they forget is that once they bring it back into their diet, they gain it right back. If you don't want to lose your love affair with carbs while dropping the pounds, you just need to be smart about it. Instead of eliminating rice completely, there are other grains out there that you can replace it with or other forms of rice as well!

Quinoa: This superfood can be cooked and turned into a salad, a hot dish, breakfast porridge or a side during your dinner. It contains lots of protein, iron, and has twice as much fiber as other grains.
Brown rice: Unlike white rice which is refined, brown rice maintains the nutrients and fiber that the rice had before it was stripped of it.
Buckwheat: This fruit seed is perfect for breakfast as a porridge, lunch or dinner and is ideal if you have a sensitivity to wheat. It is high in fiber, manganese, and other phytonutrients found in fruits and veggies. You can also find it under the name "Kasha" in the supermarket.
Bulgur: If you've ever had a tabbouleh salad, then you've had a taste of bulgur. The whole grain is popular in mediterranean dishes is low in calories and provides your daily fiber intake, and protein.
Sprouted or whole wheat bread: Most breads contain sugar and are made from wheat grains that are ground into flour. Sprouted bread however is made after the grain has sprouted which allows those with grain sensitivities to be easily digestible. Both sprouted and whole wheat bread contain high minerals, fiber, and vitamins we need to stave off hunger and stay slim.
