5 Unexpected uses of dish soap around the house

One of the most common discussions my husband and I have is about the uses for different products. He is convinced that what manufacturers tell us is practically a "divine truth" while I insist that they are just suggestions and marketing tactics. I have him almost convinced that reason is on my side, in part because I was able to show that, for example, dishwashing soap is kind of a wonderful liquid useful for many things.

Obviously, it's good for other things beyond washing dishes, but let me give you a little trick here. If you have a pan or a pot with grease stuck to it, cover the dirty part with water, put a drop of this soap and let it boil for five minutes. As if by magic, most of the grease dissolves, and the rest is super easy to remove with a rag or a brush.

But this soap is useful for so much more:

1. To restore the shine to your hair. Yup, I'm not kidding. If your hair is dull, especially if it's greasy, pour a little squirt of liquid dishwashing in your shampoo. You'll notice a big difference

2. To clean the floors. It's the only chemical I use to clean tile and wood floors when I don't have white vinegar at hand. The important thing is to use it moderately. No more than two caps for 3/4 of a bucket of warm water.

3. It can be used as laundry detergent. If you need to wash clothes by hand, you can use dishwashing liquid. It is also excellent for removing grease stains from linens, especially tablecloths and napkins.

4. It removes stains from carpets. For rugs and carpets it works much better than the products designed for this purpose, but since it is a bit more abrasive, you should test on a corner first.

5. To kill insects in a non toxic way. A half soap-half warm water solution frees you from ants and wasps.
