I like science. No, really, I really appreciate and kind of love reading about new studies that come out, especially when those studies involve health or food or (even better) the combination of the two. The latest study, though, seriously has me shaking my head.
According to a study by Stanford University researchers, organic food may not actually be better for you than non-organic food. Um, what?! Here's something that the good scientists that published in the Annals of Internal Medicine clearly didn't realize before: eating healthy isn't JUST about vitamins. US News Health Buzz reports that "organic foods are no healthier, in terms of the amount of nutrients and vitamins they pack" but what about the pesticides that are prevalent in non-organic foods?
Deana Bravata, a Stanford senior research affiliate, told the Associated Press that "there are many reasons why someone might choose organic foods over conventional foods" and pointed toward environmental concerns and taste preferences but claims that there isn't much difference when it comes to health. Well, Deana, you may want to look at the list by the Environmental Working Group about which US produce has the most pesticide.

I don't know about you, but eating apples (the #1 food that's pesticide-ridden) doesn't really make me feel very healthy. Maybe that apple from a regular convenience store has the same nutrients as the organic apple, but the organic movement is still too new for us to really be able to tell the full benefits in the long run. I, for one, am going to stick to buying organic as much as possible cause there's just no WAY that all of those pesticides in conventional food are doing me any health favors.
