If there's one thing I suck at, it's keeping my tights from ripping. I don't know what it is with me, but I can't seem to get these things to last. All it takes is a few wears before I discover pesky holes, tears and runs. The way I go through them you'd think they were disposable or something. Ugh! I seriously envy chicks that don't have this problem. It's an expensive burden and I sure as hell can't afford to invest in $60 tights! But then again, who can?

Sorry but that ripped-tights look is a little too hipster for me. You know what I mean? I refuse to walk around showing patches of skin through my favorite pair–it's just not cute! At least not on a 28-year-old woman anyway. There has to be a way to keep these things intact, no? I did a little digging and found a few genius tips to fix and prevent tears from making their way onto your tights all season long. Check them out!
Get thick tights: I'm not suggesting you spend 60 or 70 bucks on a pair of tights, but the kind you buy does matter. I stick to thicker ones that are less likely to rip on me like H&M's 2-pack tights. Not bad for less than $20, no? Hm.com, $18
Cabled tights: Cabled tights are almost impossible to rip. They also keep my legs warm and toasty! Anthropologie.com, $38.
Slip on some socks: If I'm wearing boots or booties, I also slip on a pair of black ankle socks over my tights. It prevents any rips from appearing around my toes (the worst kind of rip ever) and keeps my feet extra cozy on those cold nights.
Get the right size: If your tights are a size too small, chances are they'll rip on you. I always recommend going a size up. Better safe than sorry, right?
File your nails: Crooked or hangnails are future rips in the making. I normally file my nails before slipping on tights. I even go as far as apply hand cream first.
Hand wash them: Don't even think about throwing those precious tights of yours in a regular machine wash. I hand wash mine using Woolite and then hang them up to dry. This is your safest bet.
Carry clear nail polish: Stops those runs in their tracks with a coat or two of clear, nail polish. This trick has yet to turn me down!
