Apparently, __hairy armpits are all the rage__among women in China. What the fuzz? Lately, China's version of Twitter, Weibo, has been exploding with photos of women sporting unshaven pits and very brazen "long hair, don't care," attitudes.

Some news outlets have labeled the trend a "competition," however there doesn't appear to be any sort of prize or trophy attached to this bushy battle. Unless, of course, you consider the freedom to celebrate your cuerpo, body hair and all, a prize. In that case, all of these women are winners.
I can see why this trend would make some people cringe. Most of us have been socialized to believe that body hair on women is unhygienic and unladylike. I get that. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. I, on the other hand, don't buy that way of thinking. I believe that women should be able to celebrate their bodies any way they deem fit. If that means letting their underarm hair grow down to their hips, then so be it. After all, men grow out their body hair and we don't get on their cases about it. So we shouldn't bash women for doing the same.
Personally, I envy these women; I envy their ability to not care about what people will think of their fuzzy armpits. I wish I could do the same. In my life, so far, I've spent upwards of 200,000 minutes plucking, tweezing and waxing hair off my body. That's time I'll never get back. And I'm disappointed in myself for not being strong enough to say, YOLO, and just rock my natural body hair.
That's why I think this trend is actually pretty empowering. Rather than waste another minute thinking about what others will think about them, these women are spending their time having good, clean fun celebrating their bodies. Good for them.
