Salma Hayeks’s new fringe + how to find the right bangs for your face!

I have to admit I've really been loving Salma Hayek's beauty decisions these days. The Mexican actress was spotted with chic full bangs leaving the Wendy Williams Show taping at Chelsea Studios yesterday. Heavy bangs can easily overwhelm a square shaped face like Salma's, but her long bangs were tapered on the side, adding a soft element that prevented her face from looking too boxy. Bangs are a great way to update your look, that is if the cut flatters your face shape. So before you go for the big chop, check out a few of my tips below to help you figure out which style works best for you!

If you have a square face like Salma or Demi Lovato, a full blunt fringe works best. The trick is to make sure they hit the right spot. Tell your stylist to have them tapered on the sides and make sure they hit right above your brows.

Bangs can make a round face like Eva Longoria's appear fuller. So to soften prominent cheeks go for long angular, side swept bangs. This style will help elongate the face, making it appear more oval.

Heart-Shaped Face

No full fringe here! Shorter side swept bangs create a balancing effect on heart-shaped faces like Jennifer Lopez’s, drawing attention away from a strong chin and onto the eyes. Go for a featured bang that hits the arch of your eyebrow. You can wear them to the side or straight with a middle part.

Oval shaped faces like Jessica Alba can pretty much sport any kind of fringe (lucky you!). But thick, wide bangs look best because they accentuate features and break up the face so it doesn’t look as long.
