I was pretty impressed by Camila Alves' wedding dress this past weekend. The new Mrs. Matthew McConaughey wore a very traditional dress. And now I know why!
Apparently the Brazilian model and handbag designer asked fellow countrywoman, dress designer Ducarmo Castelo Branco, to design the dress for her June 9th wedding to the American actor. The 78-year-old family friend happily obliged and, since Camila has known the wedding dress designer since she was a young girl growing up in Brazil, Camila says that "she has been planning this design for over 20 years."

Isn't that so sweet? They've known each other for so long that I'm not at all surprised that Camila asked the well-known designer, who has an atelier in the city of Governador Valadares, which is in Camila's state of Minas Gerais, that has been open for more than 40 years, to do the dress for her nuptials.
The designer really took care of Camila, too. She hired 5 local seamstresses to hand sew most of the dress, whose color is "ice" and the tulle covering it has 5,000 Austrian crystals. Of course, Camila's traditional garb is a touch of her roots coming through. The veil is actually a nod to the mantillas that the Portuguese high society ladies used back when Brazil belonged to Portugal while her tiara is actually an antique.

The bride just looked simply amazing in the custom-made gown and I'm so touched that she had a personal connection to the designer. I think it's great that they met up to talk about the dress in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, but that ultimately Camila "just had to trust them." She clearly made the right choice!
What do you think about the sweet story of Camila's dress designer thinking about it for the past 20 years? Do you like the details of her traditional dress? Did you wear something more traditional to your culture at your own wedding? Share with us in the comments below!
