How Kim Kardashian’s relationship with daughter North West changed since divorcing Kanye

Kim Kardashian has been fairly open about the parenting challenges she has faced as a single mom. Despite her being a billionaire with limitless resources, divorce can be difficult for kids. But recently, Kim Kardashian spoke about how her relationship with her daughter, North West, improved after splitting from Kanye West.

The SKIMS mogul has four children with her ex-husband, now known as Ye. In 2013, their first child, North, was born. After Kim and Ye tied the knot in 2014, they welcomed three more kids: Saint in 2015, Chicago in 2018, and Psalm in 2019. Kim filed for divorce in February 2021; it was finalized by November 2022.

On ‘The Kardashians,’ Kim Kardashian opened up about her relationship with daughter North West.

Kim shared that her relationship with North is better than ever during the February 27 episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians.

North is obsessed with me now and calls me with her friends,” Kim told her sister, Kourtney Kardashian, per E! Online. “Like, ‘Mom, I love you. You’re the best mom, I love you so much.'”

She attributed the drastic change to her divorce.

In the episode, Kim called the difference in North’s attitude toward her the “craziest thing.” She explained that her daughter spent a year being “mad at me” and pointed to the likely culprit.

“I think it was all the divorce,” Kim concluded. “It’s insane, the turnaround.”

Previously, the busy mom lamented the rough patch.

During a 2023 episode of The Kardashians, Kim spoke about how Ye could do no wrong in North’s eyes after their divorce.

She detailed, per Page Six, “She’ll be like, ‘Dad is the best. He has it all figured out, he doesn’t have a nanny, he doesn’t have a chef, he doesn’t have security. He lives in an apartment.'”

Kim continued, “And she’ll start crying, ‘Why don’t you have an apartment? I can’t believe we don’t have an apartment.'”

Kim has also gotten vulnerable about solo parenting.

On November 12, 2024, Kim appeared on the iHeartRadio podcast What in the Winkler?, during which she got brutally honest about solo parenting. The reality star acknowledged that she sometimes felt “alone” despite having a “great support system.”

“Sometimes in the middle of the night, when they’re all sleeping in your bed kicking you and crying and waking up,” Kim shared. “It’s not something that I talk about a lot because I feel like there is always a lot of judgment or people always will jump to the, ‘Oh, but you have the resources to have nannies and to have help.’ And I just think that no matter what kind of help I have, basically raising four kids by myself.”

Before that, she confessed to ‘crying herself to sleep.’

In May 2023, Kim appeared on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast. She admitted during their conversation that at times, the “chaos” seemed like too much.

“It has been the most challenging thing,” she explained. “There are nights I cry myself to sleep. Like, holy s—, this f—ing tornado in my house. Like, what just happened?”
