Kim Kardashian opens up about the ‘chaos’ of being a single mom: ‘I cry myself to sleep’

When it comes to ultra-wealthy celebrities like Kim Kardashian, parenting is a bit different than it is for regular folks. The Kar-Jenners can afford the best nannies, top-notch schools and tutors, and all sorts of hired help around the house. But that doesn't mean being a single parent is a walk in the park.

As a refresher, Kim shares four children with her ex-husband, Kanye West. Their oldest, North West, was born in June 2013, followed by Saint West in December 2015, Chicago West in January 2018 via surrogate, and Psalm West in May 2019, also via surrogate. In a recent interview, the SKIMS mogul opened up about what being a single mom is really like. Let's take a closer look at what she said.

Kim's comments on the 'madness' of parenting young kids are super relatable.

In May 2023, Kim spoke about parenting and dating in the wake of her divorce during an appearance on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast. "Everyone says the days are long and the years are short, and that couldn't be like a more true statement," she told Jay Shetty, reported E! Online. "When you're in it, I mean, especially when they're babies and you're feeding, there's madness going on. It's like full madness. It's the best chaos though."

Kim Kardashian confessed that being a single mom isn't always easy.

When it comes to being a single parent, Kim didn't mince words. "It has been the most challenging thing," she confessed on the podcast. "There are nights I cry myself to sleep. Like, holy s—, this f—ing tornado in my house. Like, what just happened?"

Kim continued: "You know, with all the moods and the personalities and sometimes they're fighting, and you know, there's no one there. Like, it's me to play good police officer and bad cop."

Kim also spoke about how much her kids need from her all the time.

Even when kids get older, things aren't necessarily easier. Kim knows this all too well. "It's like I always have to do one of my daughter's hair, and it has to be perfect, and it has to be a certain way, and then this one needs me to put his shoes on and they all need you," she said during the interview. "It's like full crazy madness, cooking, running around. Like, it's wild."

She also shared that "parenting is the thing that has taught me the most about myself."

In December 2022, Kim opened up about co-parenting with Kanye.

During a sit-down with Angie Martinez on her IRL Podcast, Kim dished on her experience raising North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm with Kanye. Their divorce had just been finalized that November. “It’s hard,” she admitted. “Co-parenting—it’s really f—ing hard.”

Kim stressed she puts the kids first—and will always protect their view of Kanye.

Being a single mom and co-parenting with an ex certainly comes with its own set of challenges. But Kim has made it a point not to speak poorly of her kids' father. “I definitely protected [Kanye] and I still will,” she said on the IRL Podcast. “In the eyes of my kids, for my kids. So in my home, my kids don’t know anything that goes on—on the outside world. And I’ve managed to do that. I’m holding on by a thread—I know I’m like so close to that not happening.”

Kim went on to add: “I had the best dad. I have the best memories and the greatest experience. And that’s all I want for my kids. As long as they can have that, that’s what I would want for them.”

Kudos to Kim for taking the high road and doing her absolute best as a newly single mom. Although she may not always feel like it, she's totally killing it. You've got this, mama!
